Basketball: Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 Divisions

These recreational programs stress participation, sportsmanship, development of skills and fun.
Programs are designed to be age-appropriate and coaches are selected by the Wilbraham Parks & Recreation staff.

Youth Grades 2 (Coed by grade)
  • A non-competitive program reinforcing skills learned at Grades 1 level by applying skills in dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, positioning and rebounding, and more.
  • Open to Wilbraham residents and school choice students only
  • Program begins in mid December and runs through March.
  • Practices run once a week.
  • Eight game schedule begins in January. Once games begin there will be one practice during the week only if space permits.
  • One game on the weekends - generally on Saturday afternoons.
  • REGISTRATION: Online only: September 3- November 3 / Mail in, at the Recreation Office: October 21- November 1

Instructional- Wilbraham Kindergarten (Coed)
  • A non-competitive program that stresses the fundamentals of basketball in an educational and fun environment; dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, positioning and rebounding, and more.
  • Open to Wilbraham and school-choice students only.
  • Program begins in December and runs through March.
  • Instructional practices start in mid December on Saturday and once during the week in January.
  • Six game schedule begins January. Once games begin there will be one practice during the week only if space permits. One game on the weekends - generally on Saturday morning.
  • REGISTRATION: Online only: September 3- November 3 / Mail in, at the Recreation Office: October 21 - November 1

Start Smart Pre-K, Ages 4-5 (Coed)
  • This program is all about fun!
  • Open to Wilbraham Residents only
  • Learn the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball, work one-on-one and spend quality time with a parent or caregiver.
  • An adult must be available to work with each child.
  • Focus will be on teaching children and parents skills in dribbling/ball handling, passing/catching, shooting and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt.
  • Each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement.
  • Held on six Saturdays: January 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 22, (no program 2/15), 9AM - 10AM at Soule Rd School
  • Space is very limited.
  • REGISTRATION: online only, November 19 - December 1 / in-office/mail-in and in-office through November 29
